SEWERAGE SYSTEM

Water PNG maintains Sewerage Systems in 7 Business Centres out of the 20 provincial towns. These towns are Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Popondetta, Kimbe, Alotau and Kundiawa.

Sewerage Treatment Plants treats the sewage or used water from the towns. It comes from domestic, commercial and industrial sources.The collection, treatment and disposal of sewage is an integral part of Water PNG operations.  Sewage is 99.97% water because by far the greatest volume comes from toilets and showers. The rest is dissolved and suspended matter. Sewage also comes from industrial processes.These 99.97% water and the solid component must undergo a treatment process so that when finally disposed, it is not harmful to the natural ecosystem.
